RECIPE :
Honey Bun Coffee Cake
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 8-ounce tub sour cream
- 4 eggs
- 3/4 c. vegetable oil
- 1 c brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
- 2 c. powdered sugar
- 4 Tbsp. milk
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Preheat the oven to 325°F and prepare a 9×13-inch pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, oil, and sour cream. Stir by hand until large lumps are gone. Some lumps may remain, and that’s okay.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan.
- In a medium bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon, mixing them well.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture evenly over the batter in the cake pan, making sure to reach the edges.
- Carefully spread the remaining half of the batter on top, even though it may feel uncomfortable. The batter and sugar mixture will mix together.
- Take a butter knife and twirl it through the batter to create a swirly pattern.
- Bake for 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, mix together powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. Use a fork to ensure any clumps are broken up.
- Once the cake is out of the oven, quickly pour the powdered sugar mixture over the warm cake.
- Allow the wonderful crackle to appear as it cools. Wait for about 15 minutes before cutting into it, if you can resist. Enjoy the reminiscent taste of a Honey Bun!
