Homemade Chocolate Turtle Cake

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup of chocolate chips.
  • 2 cups of pecans.
  • ¾ cup of melted butter.
  • ½ cup of evaporated milk.
  • 1 (14 ounces) bag of caramels.
  • 1 ⅓ cups of water.
  • ⅓ cup of oil.
  • 3 eggs.
  • 1 (18 ounce) box of German chocolate cake.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Prepare the cake by mixing according to the package directions. Pour half of the cake batter into a 13×9-inch baking pan and bake it for 15 minutes in a preheated oven set to 350°F (175°C).
  2. While the cake is baking, melt the caramels, milk, and butter in a double boiler, stirring continuously until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Once the first half of the cake is done and has cooled, pour the caramel mixture evenly over the cake. Sprinkle 1 cup of pecans and chocolate chips on top of the caramel layer.
