Baked Spaghetti and Meatballs
“Baked Spaghetti and Meatballs is a delightful twist on a classic Italian-American favorite.”
INGREDIENTS:
- Meatballs (I used about 1½ doz homemade meatballs) **Meatballs were fully cooked
- 24 oz jar marinara sauce (I used San Marzano Sauce)
- ½ yellow onion (diced)
- 3 cloves garlic (crushed)
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 2 TBSP olive oil
- ¾ spaghetti noodles
- 1-2 cups grated cheese (I used half Colby-jack, half mozzarella)
- ½ cup grated parmesan
INSTRUCTIONS:
- In a large cast-iron skillet, heat olive oil over medium-low heat, and sauté the onions until they become tender. Add the garlic and continue to sauté until the onions are soft.
- Add the cooked meatballs to the skillet.
- Pour in the marinara sauce and add a teaspoon of Italian seasoning. Heat the mixture over medium-low heat for about 20-30 minutes.
- In a separate large pot, cook the spaghetti noodles according to the package instructions, but be sure to undercook them by 2 minutes.
- Use a large slotted spoon to remove the meatballs from the sauce and set them aside.
- Transfer the cooked spaghetti into the marinara sauce using the same slotted spoon. Add about ½ cup of pasta cooking water. Gently stir to ensure the pasta is fully coated with the sauce.
- Place the cooked meatballs on top of the spaghetti.
- Sprinkle with grated cheese and Parmesan cheese.
- Bake at 350°F for approximately 20-30 minutes or until the dish is hot and bubbly, and the cheese is melted.
