Equipment
9x13 inch Casserole Dish
Mixing Bowl
Whisk
Ingredients
- 6 Large Eggs
- 16 slices White Bread crusts removed
- 4 cups Ham cubed
- 16 oz Sharp Cheddar Cheese sliced into ¼ inch thick pieces
- ½ teaspoon Pepper
- ½ tablespoon Onion Powder
- ½ teaspoon Salt
- ½ tablespoon Seasoning Salt
- 3 cups Whole Milk
- ½ cup Salted Butter melted
- 2 cups Cornflakes crushed
Instructions
- Begin by spraying a 9×13 inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
- Cover the bottom of the baking dish with 8 slices of bread, ensuring the crusts are removed. Tear the bread as needed to evenly cover the bottom, allowing some to go up the sides.
- Sprinkle the cubed ham evenly over the bread to create the next layer.
- Lay out all the slices of cheese in a single even layer over the ham, ensuring it covers the entire surface.
- Top the cheese layer with the remaining 8 slices of bread, essentially forming one large sandwich.
- In a bowl, beat together eggs, salt, seasoning salt, and pepper. Whisk in the onion powder and milk until thoroughly combined.
- Pour the egg/milk mixture over the entire casserole, ensuring the layers are soaked.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and refrigerate overnight. This allows the bread and other ingredients to absorb the egg/milk mixture and seasonings for several hours.
- In the morning, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Slightly crush the cornflakes and spread them evenly over the top of the casserole.
- Melt ½ a cup of butter and pour it over the crushed cornflakes.
- Bake the dish uncovered for 1 hour until it becomes golden and bubbly.
- Allow the casserole to sit for 10 minutes before serving, as it will be piping hot right out of the oven.
Notes
Use torn bread slices to cover the dish appropriately, avoiding overcrowding.
