Easy Fried Cheese Bites

These Easy Fried Cheese Bites are crispy, gooey delights that make for a perfect appetizer or snack. Bite-sized pieces of mozzarella cheese are coated in a crunchy breadcrumb crust and fried until golden brown. Serve them with marinara sauce for dipping, or enjoy them on their own!

Ingredients

  • 10 oz mozzarella string cheese (or 10 sticks)
  • 1 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  • Cut mozzarella string cheese sticks into bite-size pieces on a cutting board.
  • In a medium-sized bowl, whisk eggs to break them up. Add milk and whisk again to combine.
  • Prepare two additional bowls: one with flour and the other with bread crumbs. Place the bowl with the egg and milk mixture in between, creating a line of three bowls (flour, egg mixture, bread crumbs).
  • Take one piece of mozzarella and dip it first in flour, then in the egg mixture, and finally roll it in bread crumbs. Repeat for all cheese pieces, placing each coated piece on a plate.
  • In a medium-sized skillet, heat vegetable oil (about 2 inches high) to 350°F. Test the oil by placing a wooden spoon handle in it; if bubbles form around the handle, the oil is ready.
  • Line a plate with paper towels.
  • Carefully add 5-7 cheese pieces into the hot oil for about 30 seconds, ensuring they are separated to prevent sticking together.
  • Fry mozzarella bites until golden brown, about 30 seconds. Use a slotted spoon to remove fried pieces from oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • Repeat frying process with remaining cheese bites in batches until all are fried.
  • Serve fried cheese bites immediately with pasta sauce or enjoy them on their own!

Notes

These crispy, gooey cheese bites are best enjoyed fresh and hot. Feel free to adjust the spice level by adding cayenne pepper to the breadcrumb mixture if desired.
