DUTCH APPLE BREAD

DUTCH APPLE BREAD

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 cup softened butter 1 cube
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups diced peeled a green apple
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Topping:

  • 5 TBSP cold butter
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 TBSP granulated sugar
  • 2 TBSP brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

Vanilla Glaze: Whisk all ingredients together until smooth. Set aside.

  • 1 TBSP melted butter
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 TBSP milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare a bread pan by lining it with parchment paper or greasing it with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Add the eggs, milk, and vanilla, stirring until well incorporated. Next, mix in the flour, salt, and baking powder. Gently fold in the apples and nuts. Transfer this mixture to the prepared baking pan.
  3. For the topping, combine all the topping ingredients and use a fork or pastry mixer to mix them until they become crumbly. Sprinkle this topping over the batter in the pan.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the bread comes out clean. (You can also check if the internal temperature of the bread reaches 200 degrees Fahrenheit, indicating that it’s fully cooked.)
  5. Allow the bread to cool, then remove it from the pan and drizzle the top with the vanilla glaze.
  6. Slice and serve, and store any leftovers in an airtight container.
