CREAMED PEAS

Creamed Peas

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb package of frozen petite peas
  • 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup of finely diced sweet onion or shallots
  • 2 cups of half and half or light cream
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of granulated garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon of onion powder
  • Pinch of nutmeg

Instructions:

  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onions and cook until translucent, approximately 2 minutes. Then, add the flour, stirring until it’s absorbed.
  2. Gradually whisk in the half and half. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then add the salt, black pepper, granulated garlic, onion powder, and nutmeg.
  3. Add the frozen peas to the saucepan, mixing until they are coated with the sauce.
  4. Cook the mixture over medium heat for 5-7 minutes or until the peas are just tender. Stir occasionally during cooking.
  5. Serve the creamy peas immediately. Enjoy!
