INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger, or more to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder, or more to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • 2 ounces shredded carrots
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 quart peanut oil for frying, or as needed
  • 8 (7 inch square) egg roll wrappers
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (Optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Step 1: Season the beef with ginger and garlic powder in a large bowl, ensuring it’s thoroughly combined.
  2. Step 2: Place the seasoned beef in a medium skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir until the beef is browned and crumbly, which usually takes about 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. Step 3: In a large bowl, combine the cooked beef, cabbage, and carrots, mixing until the egg roll filling is well combined.
  4. Step 4: Mix the flour and water together in a small bowl until you have a paste.
  5. Step 5: Heat the oil in a large skillet to around 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) over medium-high heat.
  6. Step 6: While the oil is heating, prepare the egg rolls. Lay one egg roll wrapper on a work surface with one corner pointed toward you, forming a diamond shape. Place approximately 1/4 to 1/3 cup of the prepared filling in the center of the wrapper.
  7. Step 7: Fold the bottom corner up and over the filling. Fold the left and right corners in toward the center. Push the egg roll away from you and roll toward the top corner. Brush a bit of the flour paste over the inside of that corner to help seal the egg roll.
  8. Step 8: Fry the egg rolls in the hot oil, turning occasionally, until they turn golden brown and crispy. This typically takes 5 to 8 minutes.
  9. Step 9: Remove the cooked egg rolls from the oil and drain them on paper towels or a rack.
  10. Step 10: Place the egg rolls on a serving plate and sprinkle sesame seeds over the top. Enjoy your homemade egg rolls!
