Gourmet Homemade Caramel Apples

Homemade Caramel Apples

Ingredients:

  • 10-15 Granny Smith apples
  • 1 cup salted butter
  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional Toppings:

  • White candy melts
  • Cinnamon-sugar mixture
  • Crushed pretzels
  • Chopped pecans
  • Mini M&M’s
  • Crushed Oreos
  • Toasted coconut
  • Melted dark or milk chocolate

Instructions:

1️⃣ Prep Apples: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Thoroughly wash the apples to remove any waxy residue, dry them completely, and insert a stick into the top of each apple. Place the apples in the freezer for 20 minutes to chill.

2️⃣ Caramel Creation: In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Mix in the brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk. Cook and stir the mixture until it reaches 235-240°F on a candy thermometer, which should take about 12-15 minutes.

3️⃣ Vanilla Infusion: Once the caramel is at the desired temperature, remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

4️⃣ Dipping: Dip the chilled apples into the caramel, allowing any excess to drip off. Place the coated apples on the prepared baking sheet. Refrigerate for 15 minutes to set the caramel.

5️⃣ Add Toppings: Before the caramel sets completely, roll the apples in or sprinkle them with any of the optional toppings you desire.
