  • 4 cups Cubed white bread (about 8 slices)
  • 1/2 cup Raisins Can substitute with dried cherries or cranberries
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1/4 cup Butter Plus additional 1/2 cup for the sauce
  • 1/2 cup Sugar Plus additional 1/2 cup for the sauce
  • 2 Eggs Slightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla Plus 1 tablespoon for the sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup Firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup Heavy whipping cream

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cubed white bread and raisins.
  3. In a saucepan, heat the milk and 1/4 cup of butter over medium heat until the butter melts (about 4 to 7 minutes).
  4. Pour the warm milk mixture over the bread and raisins, allowing it to mingle for 10 minutes.
  5. Gently stir in the sugar, slightly beaten eggs, vanilla, and ground nutmeg until well-combined.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
Baking
  1. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
Vanilla Sauce Preparation
  1. Combine the remaining butter, sugar, brown sugar, and heavy whipping cream in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until thickened (about 5 to 8 minutes).
  2. Finally, stir in 1 tablespoon of vanilla, and remove from heat.
Serving
  1. Serve the warm bread pudding with the vanilla sauce drizzled on top, optionally adding whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
