Mozzarella Stick Onion Rings

Ingredients:

  • 2 large white onions
  • 8 slices of mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 5 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups of bread crumbs
  • Oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Onions and Cheese:
    • Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings carefully.
    • Cut the mozzarella cheese slices to fit inside the onion rings. Sandwich a smaller onion ring inside to encase the cheese. Repeat for all onion rings and cheese slices.
  2. Breading:
    • Set up a breading station with three bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for bread crumbs.
    • Dip each onion ring into the flour, shaking off excess. Then dip it into the beaten eggs, ensuring full coverage. Finally, coat the ring in bread crumbs, pressing gently to adhere. Place on a plate and repeat for all rings.
  3. Fry the Onion Rings:
    • Heat oil in a large frying pan or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
    • Fry the breaded onion rings in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
    • Use a slotted spoon to remove the rings from the oil. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve the Mozzarella Stick Onion Rings hot with marinara sauce for dipping. Enjoy the combination of melty cheese and crispy onion for a delightful snack.
