Homemade Blackberry Cobbler is a delightful and simple dessert that captures the essence of sweet, juicy blackberries nestled beneath a golden, biscuit-like topping. This classic treat has earned its reputation for being utterly delicious and comforting.
This recipe is highly rated for a reason—it’s excellent! However, a few changes could be made. You can either increase the amount of dough or decrease the pan size.
I used an 8 x 8 baking pan, and the amount of dough was perfect. I also added cinnamon to the dough and berries, as well as vanilla extract to the dough. I used tart wild blackberries, and it was still a little on the sweet side, so I might decrease the sugar by 1/4 cup.
Overall, this recipe is excellent! In my family, which is spread across five southern states, cobbler is a tradition, and this recipe ranks as good as, if not better than, most family recipes (don’t tell Grandma).
Both my dad and I agree that this is a superb recipe. The only changes I made were adding 1/4 tsp. of freshly ground cinnamon to the dough and another 1/4 tsp. to the fruit mix, along with a little extra lemon juice.
These changes didn’t really alter the recipe significantly. Additionally, my new range doesn’t allow cast iron skillets, but it’s not a big deal. I boiled the fruit mixture in a large saucepan and transferred it to a casserole dish (uncovered) while still bubbling, and then added the dough.
Voila! I don’t think I’ll ever need another cobbler recipe. When the blackberries run out, I think I’ll try it with apricots. Edit: I’ve since increased the dough mixture by 50% and reduced the sugar in the fruit mixture by half (as recommended by other reviewers). Much better!
