Satisfy Your Donut Cravings the Easy Way – No Yeast or Rolling Needed! Just Mix, Fry, and Enjoy!

Can we all acknowledge the undeniable reality of having cravings for donuts, and it’s not just reserved for expectant mothers? I must confess, I recently found myself strongly craving donuts. It doesn’t help that there’s an amazing donut shop right on my weekly driving route. However, I’m determined not to gain a substantial amount of weight or spend a fortune there every week. But, oh, those cravings were hard to resist!

Instead of succumbing to the temptation of the shop yet again, I crafted a recipe for what might be my all-time favorite type of donut – donut holes! These bite-sized delights are not only cute but also incredibly easy to pop in your mouth in one go!

Origins of Donut Holes: Yes, traditionally, donut holes were created from the center hole of a rolled-out donut. This ingenious practice aimed to reduce food waste and save money. However, you can absolutely make standalone donut holes without the full-sized donuts.

Donut Hole Equivalent to a Full Donut: Regrettably, it’s fewer than you might expect. One regular-sized donut is approximately equal to about four donut holes. So, if you’re mindful of your intake, keep this conversion in mind. Or, if you’re like me, just keep indulging in those donut holes and treat yourself!

Frying vs. Baking Donut Holes: It’s not mandatory! While frying provides the classic donut taste and texture with a crispy outside and fluffy inside, you can also bake them. I’ve taken the dough used for these chai vanilla donuts, baked small portions in mini muffin tins, and achieved delicious baked donut holes. The choice is yours based on the texture you desire.

Cake or Yeast Donuts – What Sets Them Apart: These donut holes fall into the “cake” variety. In the realm of donuts and donut holes, there are two primary types: cake donuts and yeast (or raised) donuts. Cake donuts utilize a sweetened dough with baking powder for leavening. On the other hand, yeast donuts require a dough that uses yeast, involving a rising time. A classic glazed donut from Krispy Kreme or Dunkin Donuts exemplifies a yeast donut. While I personally adore the flavor of a fantastic yeast donut, they demand time and can be tricky to work with. For a foolproof donut experience, opt for the cake variety.
