Ingredients

Filling Ingredients
  • 0.5 pound ground beef Can substitute with turkey, chicken, or plant-based meat.
  • 1 tsp garlic (minced)
  • 1 Tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp pepper
  • 0.5 tsp cumin
  • 0.5 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons water For seasoning blend.
  • 0.25 tsp dried oregano
  • 0.25 tsp paprika
  • 1/3 cup diced onion
  • 0.5 can Rotel (diced tomatoes with green chilies) 8 oz can.
Pastry Ingredients
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed) Typically comes in a package of two.
  • 1 cup Mexican blend cheese (shredded)
Optional Garnishes
  • lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, green onions, cilantro For serving.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and prepare a baking sheet by spraying it with nonstick spray.
  2. In a skillet over medium-high heat, crumble the ground beef and break it up well as it cooks. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until the meat is no longer pink.
  3. Drain the beef mixture and stir in the spices: chili powder, salt, pepper, cumin, onion powder, dried oregano, and paprika, along with 2 tablespoons of water. Mix well and let it simmer for about 3–4 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. Remove the mixture from heat and let it cool slightly before spreading it over the puff pastry.
  5. Unroll the pastry dough on a flat surface and press it into a large rectangle. Spread the beef mixture evenly over the dough, followed by sprinkling on the shredded cheese.
  6. Starting from the long edge nearest to you, roll the dough tightly into a log. Seal the edge to secure the filling.
  7. Using a serrated knife, slice the roll into one-inch pieces, wiping the knife in between cuts to keep it clean.
Baking
  1. Arrange the pinwheels on your prepared baking sheet, leaving a bit of space between each one.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the pinwheels are golden brown and puffed up.
  3. Serve hot with your choice of garnishes!
