Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 tablespoons real butter melted
  • 1 cup pecans, coarsely chopped

Instructions

Preparation

  • Prepare a sheet of wax paper and have a tablespoon ready for scooping.

Cooking

  • In a large 4-quart saucepan, combine the sugars, milk, vanilla, melted butter, and chopped pecans.
  • Heat gently on low, stirring frequently until the butter melts and mixes well with the sugars.
  • Increase the heat to medium-high and boil for exactly 3 minutes, stirring continuously to prevent burning.
  • Remove from heat and stir vigorously for 2 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  • Quickly spoon dollops of the mixture onto the wax paper.
  • Let pralines cool and set for 10 to 15 minutes.

Storage

  • Store pralines in an airtight container once fully cooled.

Notes

Crushed pralines make a delicious topping for vanilla ice cream. Keep stored at room temperature for up to a week. Refrigerate for longer storage, but best enjoyed fresh.
