Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or cast iron skillet.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt, and baking soda. Stir to combine.
  • In a separate small bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, egg, and buttermilk until well combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined, leaving a few lumps in the batter.
  • Spread the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cornbread to cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your delicious Sweet Cornbread!

Notes

For added texture and flavor, you can fold in some canned corn kernels or diced jalapenos into the batter before baking.
