- In a large skillet, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and set it aside, leaving the bacon drippings in the pan.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the bacon drippings and sauté until soft and translucent.
- Stir in the chopped cabbage and cook for about 5 minutes until slightly wilted.
- Add the sugar and cider vinegar to the skillet. Stir well to combine and cook until the cabbage is tender, about 10-15 minutes.
- Add the crumbled bacon back into the skillet and mix well.
- Season with salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes to taste.
- Serve warm as a side dish.

Notes
