Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's softened to room temperature.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Add-ins

  • 1 cup chopped pecans You can toast the pecans for enhanced flavor.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream together the softened butter, eggs, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  • Gradually mix in the buttermilk until well combined.
  • Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Fold in the chopped pecans.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  • Bake for 60-70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Sweet Alabama Pecan Bread can be served warm or at room temperature with butter or cream cheese. Store in plastic wrap or foil at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for about a week. For longer storage, freeze for up to 3 months. Avoid overmixing the batter and check for doneness before the baking time is complete.
