Ingredients

Filling
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp canned strawberry pie filling Can be replaced with homemade fruit preserves.
Crust and Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar For glaze.
  • 1 tbsp corn syrup
  • 2 tbsp water To mix with glaze.

Method

Preparation
  1. Fill a Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed pot with vegetable oil to a depth of four to five inches. Heat the oil to 375°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, vanilla, and sugar until smooth and creamy.
  3. Roll out the refrigerated pie crust on a clean surface. Using a 5 to 6-inch bowl or cookie cutter, cut out six circles.
  4. Place a scoop of the cream cheese filling and two tablespoons of strawberry pie filling in the center of each circle.
  5. Moisten the edges with a little water, fold over the crust, and crimp it shut to seal.
Cooking
  1. In a small bowl, mix together the powdered sugar, corn syrup, and water to create a smooth glaze.
  2. Gently fry the pies one at a time for 2-3 minutes until they turn a rich golden brown. Drain them on paper towels afterward.
  3. Brush the warm pies generously with the glaze and allow them to set.

Notes

For best results, ensure your oil is at the correct temperature before frying. Use a thermometer for accuracy. Experiment with different fillings like blueberry, peach, or even chocolate ganache for creative variations.
