Preparation
- Preheat the frying oil to 375°F on your stovetop or in a fryer.
- Cut the okra into 1/2-inch slices and set aside.
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, hot sauce, garlic powder, and egg until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, combine the cornmeal, self-rising flour, and Cajun seasoning.
- Dip the okra slices into the buttermilk mixture, allowing any excess to drip off, and then dredge them in the flour mixture.
- Fry the okra in batches for about 3 to 4 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove the fried okra and place it on a paper towel-lined plate. Sprinkle with additional salt or Cajun seasoning to taste. Serve hot.
