Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
Topping
  • 1 cup brown sugar Can substitute with regular granulated sugar, but flavor may differ.
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup hot water Pour gently over the batter; do not stir.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, blend the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  6. In a different bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle the mixture generously over the batter.
  7. Carefully pour the hot water over the top; resist the urge to stir!
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  9. Serve warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
