- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, blend the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- In a different bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle the mixture generously over the batter.
- Carefully pour the hot water over the top; resist the urge to stir!
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- Serve warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
