Ingredients

For the Hamburger Steaks
  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Regular or whole grain breadcrumbs can be used.
  • 1 each egg
  • 1 each onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil For frying the patties.
For the Gravy
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper until combined. Form the mixture into patties.
Cooking the Patties
  1. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties until they are browned on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side. Once done, remove them from the skillet and set aside.
Making the Gravy
  1. In the same skillet, add the flour and stir to combine with the drippings. Gradually add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, cooking until the mixture thickens, which should take about 3-5 minutes.
Simmering
  1. Return the patties to the skillet, cover them with the gravy, and allow them to simmer for 10-15 minutes to absorb the flavors. Serve hot.

Notes

To ensure your patties remain juicy, handle the meat as little as possible while mixing and forming them. If the mixture is too wet, add more breadcrumbs. Experiment with spices like paprika or Italian seasoning for a twist.
