Ingredients

For the patties
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier version.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 packet onion soup mix Divided in two parts.
For the gravy
  • 1 cup beef broth Use low-sodium if preferred.
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch For thickening gravy.
  • 2 tablespoons water To mix with corn starch.
Vegetables
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms Sliced. Any variety can be used, such as Portobello or shiitake.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, and half of the onion soup mix. Form this mixture into patties.
  2. Add the sliced onions and mushrooms at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Place the beef patties on top of the vegetable layer.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and the remaining onion soup mix. Pour this mixture over the patties.
Cooking
  1. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the meat is thoroughly cooked.
  2. If you'd like a thicker gravy, mix the cornstarch with water in a small bowl and stir it into the slow cooker during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
