Ingredients
  

For the Marinade
  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For the Sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
For the Dish
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil (for cooking)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let them sit for 10-15 minutes.
Cooking the Onions
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from the pan.
Searing the Beef
  1. Increase heat to high and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add the marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned.
Making the Sauce
  1. In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour over the beef and simmer until thickened, stirring well.
Combining & Serving
  1. Add the sautéed onions back into the skillet, stirring to combine. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes
