Ingredients

Seafood
  • 200 g Shrimp - Peeled and deveined.
  • 200 g Scallops - Fresh or thawed if frozen.
Sauce and Aromatics
  • 2 tablespoons Butter - For sautéing.
  • 1 medium Onion - Chopped.
  • 2 cloves Garlic - Minced.
  • 200 ml Heavy cream - For the creamy sauce.
  • 50 ml White grape juice - Adds a touch of sweetness.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt - To taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper - To taste.
Topping
  • 50 g Grated cheese - Your favorite for topping. Consider using Gruyere, Parmesan, or cheddar.

Method

Preparation
  1. Gather fresh shrimp and scallops. If you’re using frozen seafood, make sure to thaw it completely, rinse under cold water, and pat dry.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing for about 3-4 minutes until they become translucent.
  3. Toss in your shrimp and scallops, cooking for approximately 3 minutes. You want the shrimp to turn pink and the scallops to look opaque.
  4. Pour in the white grape juice and let it simmer for about 2 minutes. Next, stir in the heavy cream along with the salt and black pepper until everything is nicely combined.
  5. Transfer the seafood mixture into a baking dish and sprinkle the grated cheese generously on top. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the gratin for about 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  6. Let it cool slightly before serving, as it will be bubbling hot!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator, ideally consumed within 2-3 days. Reheat in the oven to preserve texture. Fresh seafood is best for flavor; consider adding herbs before baking for extra taste.
