Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 13 ounces hot Italian sausage See notes for alternatives
  • 8 ounces dry pasta (penne or rotini)
  • 1 unit sweet pepper, diced Bell pepper adds a nice sweetness
  • 1/2 unit onion, diced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, diced Optional, but adds great depth
  • 5 ounces Garlic and Herb Boursin cheese The star of your creamy sauce
  • 1 cup milk or cream Depending on your preferred richness
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • as needed oil for frying

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by heating a pot of water to a rolling boil. Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Once done, drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the diced sweet pepper and onion. Sauté until they’re tender and translucent.
  3. Add the hot Italian sausage to the skillet. Break it up with a spoon and cook until it’s thoroughly browned and cooked through.
  4. If you’re including mushrooms, add them to the mix. Sprinkle a pinch of salt over them to help draw out moisture. Sauté until they’re soft and wilted.
  5. Lower the heat and add the Boursin cheese in chunks. As it begins to melt, gradually pour in the milk or cream, stirring consistently until you reach your desired sauciness.
  6. Finally, add the drained pasta to your skillet. Toss everything together to coat the pasta in the creamy cheese sauce. Taste and adjust the seasoning with extra salt and pepper, if needed.
Serving
  1. Serve immediately and enjoy a delicious, comforting meal.
