- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
- For the brownies, melt butter and chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water. Remove from heat and stir in sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, mixing well. Sift in flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix until just combined.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 20 minutes.
- While the first layer bakes, make the caramel. Melt sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly. Once fully melted, add butter and stir until combined. Slowly drizzle in heavy cream while stirring. Boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat. Stir in sea salt.
- Pour caramel over the baked brownie layer. Top with remaining brownie batter. Bake for another 20-25 minutes.
- Let cool in pan, then slice into squares. Enjoy!
Notes
Allow the brownies to cool completely before slicing to ensure clean cuts and easy removal from the pan.
