Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, softened Can use unsalted butter with a pinch of salt.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup semi-sweet Toll House chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup walnuts Can be omitted or substituted with other nuts.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the butter for about 15 seconds until it’s half melted and half soft.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the granulated sugar and brown sugar with the softened butter. Mix until creamy.
  4. Lightly beat the egg and vanilla extract, then incorporate them into your sugar-butter mixture.
  5. Gradually mix in the all-purpose flour and baking soda until just combined.
  6. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and walnuts gently to keep the chunks intact.
  7. Roll the dough into balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, making sure you don’t overcook them—10 minutes often gives a perfect soft texture.
  9. Let cool slightly before digging in. ENJOY!

Notes

For a nut-free version, simply omit walnuts. For a more intense flavor, browning the butter adds nutty depth. Use a cookie scoop for uniform cookies.
