Dough Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/3 cup canola oil (or Crisco, which works best for texture) or butter
  • 1 cup warm water

Method

Preparation
  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  2. With the mixer running on low, gradually pour in the oil and warm water until a smooth dough forms (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured cutting board and divide it into 16 equal portions.
  4. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten them slightly.
  5. Allow the dough to rest for 15 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Take one ball of dough and use a rolling pin to roll it out into a thin circle.
  3. Cook the tortilla in the skillet for about 1-2 minutes, then flip and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  4. Transfer the cooked tortilla to a plate and repeat with the remaining dough.
