Extra toppings: Vanilla ice creamcinnamon, and caramel sauce
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Wash and pat dry your apples, then cut the top off each one (about 1/4 way down from the top).
Use an apple corer to remove the core of the apple, including the seeds. Be careful not to cut all the way down to the bottom and through the apple, just scoop out enough to remove the core and seeds, leaving a well in the center of the apple.
Using a small, sharp knife, cut two concentric circles into the apple around the well to begin creating the “bloomin' onion look.” Make sure to go deep into the apple without slicing completely through it.
Turn the apple over, cut side down, and start about 1/2 inch down from the top, cutting 1/2 inch slits all the way around the apple.
Place each apple in a casserole dish cut side up, then spoon in a tablespoon of caramel sauce into the center (the well) of each apple.
Melt your butter in the microwave for 40-45 seconds, or until completely melted. Then stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon until they are completely dissolved into the butter and create a thick glaze.
Spoon the glaze evenly over each apple.
Bake for 25-30 minutes until the apples are soft. Every type of apple cooks differently based on the size and variety, so make sure to check your apples around the 25-minute mark and cook until done.
Serve warm with ice cream, cinnamon, and leftover caramel sauce for a delicious treat!
Notes
Check apples for doneness around the 25-minute mark.
