Frosting Base Ingredients
  • 5 tbsp all-purpose flour For the base mixture.
  • 1 cup whole milk Full-fat milk is recommended.
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened At room temperature for the best texture.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar To sweeten the frosting.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract For flavoring.
  • 1 pinch salt Enhances flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the flour and milk over medium heat. Cook until the mixture thickens, stirring constantly. This should take about 5 minutes. Once thickened, transfer to a bowl and let it cool completely.
  2. In a separate large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with sugar using an electric mixer. Mix until it’s light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Once the flour mixture is cool, gradually add it to the butter mixture, beating continuously until everything is well combined and fluffy.
  4. Add in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Beat for another minute until well combined.
  5. Your Old-School Ermine Frosting is now ready to use!
