Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Place them in a large mixing bowl.
- In the bowl with the apples, combine the granulated sugar, cinnamon, optional nutmeg, all-purpose flour, and lemon juice. Toss gently to evenly coat the apple slices.
- Transfer the apple mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- In a separate bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, additional cinnamon, and salt together.
- Add the cold butter cubes to the dry mixture. Blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple mixture in the baking dish.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling up.
- Allow the apple crisp to cool slightly before serving.
