Ingredients
  

For the batter
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure butter is at room temperature
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips You can use dark or white chocolate chips for variation
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) Consider toasting them for added flavor

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix into the creamed mixture.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts.
  6. Spread the batter into the prepared baking pan.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  2. Let cool before cutting into squares.
