Ingredients
  

For the Cake
  • 1 box red velvet cake mix Plus ingredients called for on the box
  • 1 tablespoon butter For greasing the cake pan
  • 1 cup flour For dusting the pan
For the Cheesecake Filling
  • 2 packages cream cheese Softened (8 oz. each)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
For the Whipped Frosting
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 4 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Method
 

Prepare the Cake Layer
  1. Preheat your oven per the package instructions for the cake.
  2. Grease and flour your cake pan.
  3. Prepare the red velvet cake mix as directed on the box. Pour half into the prepared pan and bake.
Make the Cheesecake Layer
  1. While the cake is baking, mix the cream cheese and sugar until smooth.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, followed by sour cream, flour, vanilla extract, and kosher salt. Blend until creamy.
  3. Once the red velvet layer is baked and cooled, pour the cheesecake mixture over it and return to the oven. Bake until set.
Make Whipped Frosting
  1. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
Assemble the Cheesecake
  1. Allow the cheesecake to cool completely. Once cooled, top with whipped frosting to your liking.
