  • 12 oz bow tie pasta (farfalle)
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (turkey or chicken sausage works too) Can substitute with meat-free alternatives.
Sauce Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 14 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional) For added heat.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ cup heavy cream or half-and-half
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for garnish
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped, for garnish
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Method
 

Cooking the Pasta
  1. Boil a pot of salted water and cook the bow tie pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta and set aside.
Preparing the Sauce
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, sautéing until fragrant and translucent.
Browning the Sausage
  1. Crumble in the Italian sausage, cooking until browned and cooked through.
Combining Ingredients
  1. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, red pepper flakes (if using), and Italian seasoning. Simmer for about 10 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  2. Then, add the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese, mixing well. Toss in the cooked pasta until well coated. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Serving
  1. Plate the pasta and garnish with fresh basil and additional Parmesan cheese. Now, it’s time to dig in!
