Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/3 cup canola oil, Crisco, or butter Crisco yields the best results
  • 1 cup warm water Ensure the water is warm for best dough formation

Method

Preparation
  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, mix together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  2. With the mixer running, gradually add the oil and warm water. Mix until a smooth dough forms, which should take about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured cutting board and divide it into 16 equal pieces.
  4. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten slightly.
  5. Let the dough rest for 15 minutes while you heat a large skillet over medium heat.
Cooking
  1. With a rolling pin, roll each ball of dough into a thin circle.
  2. Cook each tortilla in the heated skillet for about 1-2 minutes per side, flipping when you see bubbles forming on the surface. Cook for an additional 30 seconds on the second side.
  3. Transfer the cooked tortillas to a plate and repeat with the remaining dough.
  4. Enjoy!
