Equipment

  • - Large bowl
  • - Nonstick skillet

Ingredients

  • - 2 pounds ground beef 75% to 80% lean
  • - 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • - 2 teaspoons dried sage
  • - 2 teaspoons salt
  • - 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • - 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • - 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • - ¼ teaspoon dried marjoram
  • - ⅛ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  • Place ground beef into a large bowl.
  • In a small bowl, stir together brown sugar, sage, salt, basil, black pepper, onion powder, marjoram, and red pepper flakes.
  • Sprinkle the spice mixture over the ground beef and use your hands to mix until evenly distributed. Cover and refrigerate for about 24 hours to allow the flavors to blend.
  • Divide the beef mixture into 8 equal portions and shape into patties.
  • Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties in batches, until firm and no longer pink in the center, about 5 to 7 minutes per side. Use an instant-read thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches at least 160°F (70°C).

Notes

- Refrigerating the beef mixture for 24 hours allows the flavors to meld, enhancing the taste of the patties.
- Adjust the amount of crushed red pepper flakes to your preference for spice level.
- Serve these delicious patties alongside eggs, toast, or as part of a breakfast sandwich.
