- For the Hamburger Steaks:Gently form the ground beef into 4 even hamburger patties, being careful not to overwork the meat.Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Just before cooking, generously season the patties with kosher salt and pepper on both sides.Cook the burgers on one side until a deep brown crust forms, about 3 minutes. Flip the burgers and cook until they reach your desired doneness. For medium doneness (pink in the center), cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes. Transfer the cooked burgers to a plate and set aside.
- For the Mushroom and Onion Gravy:Once the burgers are cooked, reduce the heat in the same skillet to medium and add the ghee to melt. Once melted, add the onions and cook, stirring, until tender, about 4 minutes, while scraping up any brown bits from the bottom of the skillet.Season the onions with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, Cajun seasoning, and dried thyme. When the onions are very tender, add the mushrooms and stir to combine. Cook, stirring, for about 2 more minutes to develop flavor in the mushrooms.Add the arrowroot starch and stir until well-combined into the onion mixture. Reduce the heat to a simmer and add the beef broth, coconut aminos, yellow mustard, and apple cider vinegar. Continue to cook, stirring, until the sauce thickens and all flavors are combined, about 4 to 5 more minutes.Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet and ladle the gravy over the burgers. Top with freshly chopped parsley and serve. Enjoy your delicious hamburger steaks with onion and mushroom gravy!
Notes
You can adjust the seasoning in the gravy according to your taste preferences. Feel free to add more Cajun seasoning for extra spice or adjust the salt and pepper to your liking. Serve these hamburger steaks with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
