- In a large, heavy-bottomed skillet, brown the ground sirloin until no pink is visible.
- Season the sirloin with garlic salt and pepper, then transfer it to a crock-pot.
- Chop the onion and add it to the crock-pot.
- Peel and dice the potatoes and carrots, then add them to the pot as well.
- Stir in the minced garlic and chicken broth.
- Add the tomato paste, onion soup mix, and Italian seasoning. Pour in enough water to cover the ingredients by about three inches.
- Mix it all together, adjusting the seasoning with garlic salt, seasoned salt, and pepper to taste.
- Stir in the brown sugar for a touch of sweetness.
- Cover with the lid and cook on high for 6 hours, stirring occasionally.
- About 45 minutes before serving, add the frozen peas to maintain their vibrant green color.
- If not ready to serve at the 6-hour mark, reduce to low heat and add more water if needed.
- Serve with your favorite crackers or crusty bread.

Notes
For an even richer flavor, sauté the onions and garlic in the skillet before adding the ground meat. Mixing in fresh herbs like basil or thyme can add depth. Other vegetables like green beans or corn can be great additions too.
