  • 1 piece bone-in ham steak Can substitute with turkey ham for a lighter version
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 2 medium carrots, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans white beans, drained and rinsed
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 leaf bay leaf
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • as needed Common pantry spices (e.g., thyme, paprika)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, celery, and carrots. Sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute, allowing it to release its aroma.
  4. Toss in the ham steak, white beans, broth, bay leaf, and your spices of choice.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes.
  6. Remove the ham steak from the pot, shred the meat, and return it to the soup.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to your liking.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy the warmth it brings!
