Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon sea salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 0.5 cups softened butter
  • 0.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cups packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix-ins
  • 1 cups chocolate chips About half of a 12 oz bag

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9” baking dish with parchment paper, or spray it with cooking spray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and sea salt until well blended.
  3. In another bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  5. Gradually incorporate the flour mixture into the butter-sugar mixture. Mix gently until just combined—overmixing can lead to tough bars.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-22 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the center looks set.
  2. Allow to cool completely before slicing into nine delicious squares.
