Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 package (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Filling
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • Zest of 2 large oranges
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice

Method

Make the Dough
  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Allow this mixture to sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add in the melted butter and egg, stirring until blended well.
  3. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-10 minutes, until it's smooth and elastic.
  5. Transfer the dough into a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about one hour or until it doubles in size.
Prepare the Filling
  1. In a small bowl, blend the softened butter, granulated sugar, and orange zest into a spreadable paste.
Assemble the Rolls
  1. Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle of about 15 x 9 inches.
  2. Spread the orange butter filling evenly over the rolled-out dough, ensuring it reaches the edges.
  3. Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log and seal the seam. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
  4. Place the rolls into a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish, making sure to leave some space between them. Cover and allow them to rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until they turn golden brown.
Make the Glaze
  1. While the rolls are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice in a small bowl until smooth.
Glaze the Rolls
  1. Drizzle the orange glaze over the warm rolls as soon as they come out of the oven.
  2. Allow them to cool slightly before serving.
