Ingredients
  

For the Gingerbread
  • 2 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon ground ginger Use fresh for the best flavor.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 cup molasses Can substitute with maple syrup for a different flavor.
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Butterscotch Sauce
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) cake pan and dust it with flour.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk the flour, ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another large bowl, mix the melted butter with brown sugar, molasses, and hot water. Blend until fully incorporated.
  4. Whisk in the eggs and vanilla extract.
  5. Gently incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until well combined.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into your prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean.
