Ingredients

Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup light or dark molasses
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick) can substitute with coconut oil or vegetable shortening
  • 1 whole egg
Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour can substitute with gluten-free flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 3/4 tsp salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the molasses, hot water, melted butter, and egg until fully blended.
  3. In another bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Ensure everything is well combined.
  4. Gradually pour the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring gently just until combined. Avoid over-mixing.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the gingerbread cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and enjoy.
