Ingredients
  

For the Steak Bites
  • 1 lb sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces Can substitute with other cuts of steak
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Add more if you love garlic
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter For the steak sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil For searing the steak
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves Or use 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish) Optional, for garnish
For the Mashed Potatoes
  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or milk Use heavy cream for richer potatoes
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter For the mashed potatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste For seasoning
  • Fresh chives, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Method
 

Preparation of Mashed Potatoes
  1. Place the cubed russet potatoes in a pot filled with salted water.
  2. Bring to a boil and let cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Drain and return to the pot, then mash with butter and heavy cream (or milk) until creamy.
  4. Season with salt and pepper, then keep warm while preparing the steak.
Cooking the Steak Bites
  1. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Sear steak bites for 2-3 minutes on each side until browned, then remove from skillet.
Making the Garlic Butter
  1. In the same skillet, reduce heat and add butter.
  2. Once melted, add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. Stir in thyme, then return steak bites to skillet, tossing in garlic butter for 1-2 minutes, seasoning to taste.
Serving
  1. Plate the creamy mashed potatoes.
  2. Top with garlic butter steak bites and garnish with parsley and chives if desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet over low heat. Freezing cooked steak bites is possible for up to 3 months if stored separately from mashed potatoes.
