Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Can be substituted with coconut oil.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Can be replaced with coconut sugar or a sugar substitute.
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature preferred.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Try peppermint extract for a festive twist.
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Using dark chocolate cocoa powder enhances chocolate flavor.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with a gluten-free blend.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup festive sprinkles or chopped nuts Optional, for decoration.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C), ensuring it’s nice and hot for baking.
  2. Grease and flour a 9x9 inch baking pan to prevent sticking.
Mixing
  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
  2. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla until fully combined.
  3. With a whisk, add in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix until you have a soft batter.
Baking
  1. Spread the mixture evenly into your prepared pan, smoothing the top.
  2. If desired, sprinkle festive sprinkles or chopped nuts over the top to make them even more appealing.
  3. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes—avoid overbaking for that perfect fudgy texture.
  4. Once cooled, cut into squares and serve.
