This classic Easy French Apple Tart features crisp gala apples on a flaky butter puff pastry, making it a perfect dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients
  

For the tart
  • 1 square sheet butter puff pastry (25cm / 10" square), barely thawed Make sure the puff pastry is just barely thawed for best results.
  • 5 tsp caster sugar (superfine sugar; regular/granulated as a substitute)
  • 2 large gala apples (or 3 medium), peeled, halved, cored, and sliced 0.5cm / 0.2" thick Gala apples provide a sweet and slightly tart flavor.
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • to taste icing sugar / powdered sugar, for dusting (optional) Dust for an appealing presentation.
  • 1 vanilla ice cream Not really optional; complements the tart beautifully.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 210°C (375°F, 190°C fan).
  2. Sprinkle a baking sheet with 3 teaspoons of caster sugar.
  3. Place the sheet of puff pastry on the baking sheet, folding in a 1cm (0.4") edge to create a border.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Arrange the apple slices over the puff pastry, overlapping them slightly for an elegant presentation.
  2. Brush the melted butter over the apple slices and sprinkle 2 teaspoons of caster sugar on top.
  3. Bake for 30 minutes or until the pastry is golden and puffed.

Notes
