Ingredients
  

For the filling

  • 6 cups sliced apples (such as Granny Smith)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 pie crust (homemade or store-bought)

For the streusel topping

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold butter, cubed

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large bowl, mix sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
  • Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust, spreading it evenly.

Making the Streusel

  • In another bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, flour, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Sprinkle the oatmeal streusel over the apples in the pie.

Baking

  • Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  • Let cool before serving.

Notes

Serve the pie warm or at room temperature, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. For best flavor, sprinkle cinnamon on top.
