Method
Make the Crust
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold, diced butter and mix until crumbly.
- Gradually add the ice water until the dough holds together. Wrap it in plastic and chill for 30 minutes.
Prepare the Filling
- Peel, core, and slice the apples. In a bowl, combine with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss to coat and set aside.
Make the Crumb Topping
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, melted butter, salt, and nutmeg until crumbly.
Assemble the Pie
- Roll out the chilled dough and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan. Fill with the apple mixture, then sprinkle with crumb topping.
Bake Your Pie
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake for 15 minutes, then lower the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 30-35 minutes.
- Let cool before slicing.
