  • 6 to 8 pieces apples (e.g., Granny Smith and Honeycrisp; peeled, cored, and sliced) Choose your favorite apples.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar Perfect to sweeten the apples.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Aromatic spice for warm flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Brightens up the filling.
For the Crumb Topping
  • 3/4 cup flour Adds crunch to every slice.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Provides caramelized flavor.
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted Makes it easy to mix into the topping.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Again, for balance.
  • pinch nutmeg Adds warmth to the topping.

Method
 

Make the Crust
  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold, diced butter and mix until crumbly.
  2. Gradually add the ice water until the dough holds together. Wrap it in plastic and chill for 30 minutes.
Prepare the Filling
  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples. In a bowl, combine with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss to coat and set aside.
Make the Crumb Topping
  1. In a separate bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, melted butter, salt, and nutmeg until crumbly.
Assemble the Pie
  1. Roll out the chilled dough and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan. Fill with the apple mixture, then sprinkle with crumb topping.
Bake Your Pie
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake for 15 minutes, then lower the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 30-35 minutes.
  2. Let cool before slicing.
