Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 2 tsp Ground ginger
  • 1 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup Molasses (or honey) Honey can be used as a substitute.
  • 1/2 cup Butter, melted Ensure butter is not too hot.
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 cup Warm water
  • 1 tbsp Fresh grated ginger (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease or line your 8x8-inch square pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, egg, and molasses until smooth.
  4. Gradually add warm water to the wet ingredients and mix well.
  5. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. If using, fold in the fresh grated ginger.
  6. Transfer the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Baking
  1. Bake in your preheated oven for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the ginger bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
  3. Optionally, serve warm or dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil for up to 3 months. To reheat, warm a slice in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds.
